I am delighted to be working once again with my friends from Huzur Vadisi, a yoga collaboration that goes back to 2003 when I did my first retreat in Turkey with them. Now in Wales the team is operating from Garth Barns, a farmstead set deep in the glorious rural setting of Wales. Here we have options for woodland walks or mountain hikes, lake swimming and campfires where we can share tall tales from the day's explorations. In addition to your twice daily meditation, pranayama and asana, there is a gym and a real Finnish sauna to ease away the tensions of the world beyond our retreat. This remote setting is perfect for unwinding and for our yoga purposes, a hideaway to explore matters of the heart and mind and yet, we are just 3.5 hours from London by train and just 2.5 hours from Manchester. The picture perfect market town of Llanidloes is a walk away, full of historic buildings, independent cafes and eateries full of character.
I offer a yoga programme to take participants deeper in their asana, pranayama (breath work) and meditation. Ideal for those of you who are curious about delving deeper into your yoga practice, these immersions are not suitable for the complete beginner. My background in Sivananda, Iyengar and Ashtanga yoga has cultivated a style that is flowing, clear and relaxing. As a lover of words and a teller of tales, my teaching is enriched with yoga philosophy, poetry and myths. Three nights allows for a real opportunity to unwind, recharge and build some solid foundations to your understanding of yoga. The spacious and warm yoga room has under-floor heating and a log-burning stove. it is fully equipped with mats, bolsters, blocks and belts.
I am a keeper of words and a lover of stories, philosophy and poetry. My yoga offers clarity, suggests precision, cultivates strength whilst suggesting softness. Mornings will be dynamic and flowing and evenings restorative. I am a senior yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance, I am a teacher of teachers and my quest is for sensitivity and greater awareness, my guides are integrity and joy.
The venue is in two beautiful barn conversions, adjacent to the traditional farmhouse. The heating is from renewable biomass and drinking water is from the farm’s own pure spring water source. The barns surround the old farmyard, now a lovely space with gardens, a stream, and an outdoor dining area for those warmer days. The comfortable accommodation is finished to a high standard providing sixteen en-suite rooms available as shared twin/double or single accommodation. There are large living and dining rooms used as communal spaces and wonderful secret outside spaces for campfires and sitting outside to read or chat. All linen and towels are provided. There are two hair dryers in each barn, but you may want to bring your own for convenience. Hand soap is provided, but otherwise you will need to bring your toiletries.
We provide delicious freshly prepared vegetarian lunch and dinner each day with plenty of vegetables, salads, soups, and a large healthy breakfast with a choice of fresh fruit, muesli, yogurt, eggs, porridge, pancakes etc. Teas, coffee, biscuits and fruit are freely available throughout the day. We provide a healthy, balanced and varied diet, buffet style so people can select from a choice. We can provide gluten or lactose free options, but we regret we can’t cater for personal preferences or complicated specialist diets.
Trains run to Caersws, 10 minutes from the property or plan to drive to SY186NN through mid Wales. More details on request.
“Thank you for a wonderful yoga retreat…it truly gave me what I was hoping for and more. From the the bottom of my heart…Thank you Emma.” Julie Street 2019
"I loved your teaching. You speak and explain so clearly and I felt inspired to extend myself in the poses - but not too much. I was so joyful and energised after both the morning and evening sessions. I love that you are unabashed about the spirituality of yoga, and that you weave in poetry, nature’s rhythms, and more. Your gentle corrections were also appreciated.” Jo Jenks 2019
"I have been in Wales with Jane and Rowan and my eyes tear up when I think of them. The place was just beautiful, in the Welsh countryside, surrounded by green fields and sheep, and Jane and Rowan were AMAZING OMG… cooked meals for us, took care of our every need, arranged cabs for us, booked massages on our behalf, treated us like friends and family and gave us each a Welsh Water Farewell Blessing when we, left. I am so thrilled to recommend them..and no, they didn’t ask me to do this..love you Jane and Rowan..and thank you." Ingrid Smith
